Eat my ears it's ... issue 18.
Virgins to the left please, I'll be with you shortly....
In keeping with the popular craze of So Doku puzzles that are sweeping the country, I would like to present you with 'So Duku for beginners'. Simply fill the 3 x 3 grid with the numbers 1 to 9 so that no two numbers that are the same appear in any row or column. Can you do it?
I've got my tickets for JJ72 at Fibbers, have you? Whoops, they've postponed until September. Why not go the whole hog and delay until 'October Swimmers'? Mind you, last time they threatened to come to Fibbers, they finally had to call the whole thing off, much to Tim's (and my) disappointment.
More of your offerings handed up at the altar of e-mail from the offices of Dark Sun Records:
"Why the lack of recent gigs?"
Sorry folks but the combination of Paul's new baby and the death of Roj's mother after a protracted illness has meant that we have been unable to play for some time. We are very hopeful that we will soon be back to regular gigs. Please bear with us.
"Your website looks boring."
Well it did. We didn't want to do away with the familiar home page but we've substantially re-vamped the other pages. Hope you like the new look.
SCARY is a rock band based in York, England. The band currently consists of two full-time members; lead guitarist Paul "Noodler" Martin and rhythm guitarist Roger "Sorry" Butler-Ellis. They both double up on vocals.
No band can exist in isolation, and even musical minimalists such as SCARY need a back-up team to provide vital assistance. So here are the folks that help make us rock:-
SCARY-Roj has become the proud owner of a lovely black Ibanez G10. Festooned with glittery new Ernie Ball strings and a pucker Ibanez strap with spikey design, he is looking forward to giving his new baby an airing at the next gig.
Family illness has disrupted Roger's availability once again and Dark Sun Records are sad to announce the death of his mother in August. We are expecting the band to be making a strong come-back in the later half of the year.
In keeping with their current "no charge" policy, SCARY continue to offer free admission to their micro-gigs at Glen Studios.
Dateline: 29 June 2005
We exist in a world of bland music. Kaiser Chiefs, The Futureheads, Bloc Party, Razorlight. They all sound the same. The all sound like the Jam might if they hadn't quit while they were ahead. FOR PITY'S SAKE WAKE UP!
For months our ears have festered, entrophied under the tinnitus of modern music. Where are our heroes?. Where are our Shakespearoes? Ah, here come our saviours, resurrected from the graveyard of rawk. The vampires of volume. Ladies and gentlemen I proudly present ....SCARY!
Their stall is set out in a familiar stylee. The floor-length drapes, the amplifier stacks to left and right, angled slightly inwards. The Medusa coils of cables connecting hardware, software and planks of wood with wire on. The shoes are off, the power is on, the Monster is born and bellows his new-born rage in a frightening wail of a D-chord.
Oh yes. What indeed, is the Frequency? The set list is evolving as they play. Thunder's 'Better Man', a staggering version of 'Street Spirit', the old favourites of 'Fade Away' and 'Crush', the haunting 'Oxygen', a soaring 'Beautiful Day' (3CR not U2), 'Its Been A While', and for the finale, the wall of sound that is their version of 'Champagne Supernova'.
They've stolen of hearts, wrung them out, and pushed them viciously back into our chests. We have lived, we have flown, we have exalted. The ecstasy is over, our fix has run its course and we must wait. Oh how we must wait, until they walk this way again.
